The 8th of August is the feast day of Australia’s first saint:

St. Mary MacKillop, in full Saint Mary Helen MacKillop, also called Saint Mary of the Cross, (born January 15, 1842, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia—died August 8, 1909, North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; canonized October 17, 2010; feast day August 8), religious figure, and educator, who was the first Australian beatified by the Roman Catholic Church and the first Australian to be recognized as one of its saints.
