How to do a Loop Braid

My really important tip is that you wet done the hair so that it is easier to work with and it will help the braid to stay secure.

What you will need: Brush or comb, spray bottle, 1 small hair elastic, and hairspray.

Time: 10-15 minutes

Skill Level: Hard

  1. Begin by brushing all the hair away from the face…
  2. Take a small section of hair, near the temple, and divide it into three strands…
  3. Start a French Braid by completing one stitch, (braid down diagonally around the back) …
  4. Now on the outside strand of the French Braid, the strand closest to the ear, section off a small piece of hair and hand it to someone to hold or clip it out of the way…
  5. Next pick up some new hair from the bottom (not the piece you just got rid off) and add it into the bottom strand, like you would in a normal French Braid
  6. Cross the new gathered strand over the middle strand…
  7. Now, on the outside strand closest to the top of the head, section off a smaller strand of hair, and hand it to someone to hold or clip it out of way…
  8. Add in some new hair to the top section, like you would in a French braid…
  9. Cross the entire gathered section of hair over the middle strand…
  10. Go back to the outside edge, nearest the ear again, and section off a small strand of hair and hand it to someone to hold..
  11. Now reach underneath and grab the first tiny strand of hair you originally handed or clipped out of the way.
  12. And add that small stand of hair into the original bottom section, while also picking up some new hair to add in…
  13. Cross that entire gathered section over the middle strand…
  14. And repeat Steps 4-13, using the two outside edge strands, over and over again…
  15. After you braid about 3-4 full stitches down, go back and gently tug on the first loops you had created. This will loosen the loops, and create the lacy look you see in the photos.
  16. Continue this in a diagonal direction across the back of the head…
  17. When you get to the nape of neck and run out of hair to add in, simply continue the same braiding pattern, only without adding in hair. (Or if you have loose ends coming out just finish off with a normal three strand plait.)

  1. I love this hairstyle so much, but….I can’t seem to get it. Would you be willing to do a video tutorial of this hairstyle? 🙂

    1. Yeah it is a tricky one, and I did say to ask if people wanted a video tutorial… so I’ll think about it 😉 🙂
