It has just been released that the previously proposed two part hobbit films will be expanded to a trilogy. Peter Jackson posted this on his Facebook page on the 30th of July “So, without further ado and on behalf of New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Wingnut Films, and the entire cast and crew of “The Hobbit” films, I’d like to announce that two films will become three.”

The Hobbit Trilogy?

I don’t really have any problem with the hobbit being turned into a trilogy, in fact it could work well. The lord of the rings is 1000ps and three films but when Tolkien went back to re-write the hobbit and make it connect better to the lotr he found that it would end up around the same length as the lotr and he never finished it. so it kinda would make sense that with adding all the extra material from the appendices and the stuff with gandalf and the white council it could very well end up as long as lotr. i just hope that most of the stuff they’re expanding is from the books and not made up stuff for the films

this is my idea for the splits between the movies; Part 1 finishing with Gandalf leaving the company before Mirkwood, Part 2; with the arrival at Laketown in the barrels or maybe even the death of Smaug and Part 3 obviously at the end of the story
